Where can you have fun, meet new people, and improve your health while walking in a safe, climate-controlled environment? Hanes Mall, of course!
For the past five years, BestHealth and Hanes Mall have been advocates and sponsors of the City of Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks Department's MallWalker program by providing space, staffing, classes and MallWalker activities.
Hanes Mall will continue to offer a climate-controlled environment for exercise purposes by opening the facility at 7 a.m. In other ways, the structure of the program is experiencing some changes, noted below.
- Effective Monday, September 27, 2004, BestHealth will begin new hours that correspond with the Mall's retail hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday - Saturday, and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
- Staff from the Recreation and Parks Department will be stationed each Tuesday and Friday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the area adjacent to Belk Court and behind the elevator. Blood pressure checks can be had during these times at this location.
- Due to a reduction in financial resources, MallWalker incentive items will no longer be available.
Track Your Mileage As a MallWalker, you can track your distance walked on a special "mileage log card" available at Hanes Mall Customer Service (located on the upper level near Sears or on the lower level near Dillard's) or at BestHealth (located on the upper level across from the post office). Completed cards may be placed in the MallWalkers drop-box at Hanes Mall Customer Service or at BestHealth.
Since Hanes Mall is the largest regional mall in the southeast - with over 1.8 million square feet - it's easy to log miles quickly. For example, a person walking one full lap of the entire mall will have walked one mile.
Become a MallWalker Membership in MallWalkers is free to all adults. To become a MallWalker, or if you have questions about the program, please contact the Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks Department at (336) 727-2505. |
